International Agricultural Programs at Oklahoma State University

Trigg Rentfro is the Director of International Programs for the American Quarter Horse Association (November 2005)

Not just any man wakes up and responds to inquiries from Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa before lunch. What may seem overwhelming to most, Trigg Rentfro, director of international affairs for the American Quarter Horse Association, takes in stride. Shortly after receiving his master’s degree in animal science, he began a career at the AQHA. He markets and promotes the American Quarter Horse internationally. Rentfro develops and implements programs for horse enthusiasts all over the world, and assists international horse lovers with conducting events to promote this western lifestyle. Rentfro tries to partner with OSU as much as possible. One recent program was initiated by Dr. David Freeman of the animal Science Department Freeman and Dr. David Henneberry, assistant dean for international programs in agriculture. The professors knew that western style riding was becoming popular overseas. They wanted to find a way to spread OSU’s horsemanship information across the world. With Rentfro’s help, they established the AQHA International Horsemanship Clinics. This program allows American universities with excellent equine programs to travel abroad and hold instructional horse riding clinics. Rentfro realizes the prestige that a degree from OSU carries and cherishes it greatly. Rentfro said, “I have met someone in almost every country I have traveled to that knows a faculty member at OSU or an alumni member that they worked with and they always have the utmost respect for that person.” (Script from an article by Brian Bendele previously published in the Ag Alumni News)
